7,700 current LEED® certified buildings; 23,000 more in the process of certification.
As of June 2011, over 7,700 commercial buildings are LEED certified and another 23,000 more are formally registered to pursue certification. In addition, approximately 10,000 residential units are LEED certified.
Demand for LEED certification continues to rise as the costs of integrating energy efficient technologies into building design and construction decreases and as developers become more knowledgeable about the financial and environmental benefits of certification.
Until now, there has been no established procedure to verify the current status of LEED project certification. Misinformation, misunderstanding and even fraudulent representations of LEED certification are unfortunate realities of the growing need for LEED due diligence in the rapidly expanding sustainable building market.
FNF’s LEED Project Certification Data Report provides a new resource and tool to verify the current status of certification. LEED project certification status may be important pursuant to lease, sale, encumbrance and LEED portfolio management.
